Hi, Team PA!
Swing Blue Alliance is organizing some trips to Montgomery County, PA to register voters. This is so, so important. If you live in or near Pennsylvania please consider signing up!
From them:
Why come to PA?
It’s one of the most important swing states. Democrats have lagged behind Republicans in registering new voters for years. Registering likely Democratic voters is CRITICAL at this point in the election cycle, and there’s no time to waste. And action is an antidote for anxiety!
We’ll be helping people who likely lean Democratic to register to vote. Here’s an opportunity to catch up to the Republicans' "new registered voters" count a bit, and to meet and work with local Dem volunteers.
Spring’s a great time to register voters, and to visit Valley Forge National Historical Park or Morris Arboretum or The Highlands Mansions and Gardens or any number of area attractions in your downtime.
Please check your calendar, and sign up for one or more dates if you can. We can’t do this work without you!
Where:
Montgomery County, PA (just north of Philadelphia). Together with local Dems and the Montgomery County Democratic Committee (MCDC), we’ll likely be working in Norristown and East and West Norriton.
Dates:
May 3-5
May 17-19
May 31-June 2
We'll go down Friday morning and come back either Sunday evening or Monday morning. If you can stay, Sunday evening is good canvassing time!
What:
Friday afternoon/evening:
On-site voter registration at Norristown Transportation Center - https://tinyurl.com/4mwb45th - and, depending on how many we are, at other locations, too.
Saturday and Sunday:
We'll canvass in pairs with local Dems, using lists that the folks there are creating--many will be people who have just moved there and need to re-register. We might also use lists of unregistered households that Swing Blue Alliance is creating.
Lodging:
Options are supporter housing arranged by MCDC, or “camping out” at the MCDC office with cots/air mattresses. Or, you can arrange your own housing (hotel, AirBnB, your friends/relatives).
Transportation:
Take the train to Philly, and get picked up at the station by local Dem volunteers.

It was a really great event, in spite of some light rain. I thoroughly enjoyed kicking off the election season by finding lots of like-minded folks (with their hearts & heads in the right place), including folks, who came from as far away as Massachusetts and Virginia. I was all set to sleep on the floor of the Montgomery County Democratic Committee if necessary, but Instead a wonderful couple put several of us up in their spare bedrooms. In the end the time door-knocking was the lesser part of the Friday evening & full day Saturday, but the camaraderie & sense of shared purpose were terrific - the perfect antidote to all the media spin & clickbait.
One of the local activists gave us insight into the abolitionist history of Montgomery County - very Inspiring!
Before leaving from my house in NJ, wife said “I really hope that misogynist doesn’t squeak back into office. I said, “so then join me & help make it so!”
1 of these days she’ll join, until then I’ll make myself happy by making a difference & with my fellow colleagues (considering how close the results were last time, when Montgomery County helped swing PA) just maybe making THE difference.
